Brief Introduction of Guannan
Located in the northeast of Jiangsu Province, P.R.China, Guannan is the south-most county in Lianyungang Municipal, which is the east terminus of New Euro-Asian Continental Land-bridge. There are 14 townships under the jurisdiction of county government and its total population amounts to 740,000. The downtown of the county occupies an area of 20 square km with a population of 160,000.
Guannan county enjoys a long history, unsophisticated folkway, as well as prosperous culture. During the past several years, guided by the spirit of enlightened and open, honest and sincere, creative and independent, with the reassuring leadership of our government and collective efforts of our people, Guannan has been making progresses in almost every field. Today it has become a thriving county with great development potential. The appearance of our social work is changing everyday. The openness to external economy extends continuously. City construction and the construction of the two industrial parks progresses at great pace. All the investors give their fine comments to the environment here.
In 2003, 2004 and 2005, Guannan came out first in Lianyungang Municipal in the assessment of society and economy development. In 2003, 2004 and 2005, Guannan was recognized by provincial government as an advanced county for revenue upgrading, a safe county and advanced county in social management. Over 40 items of Guannans general work came out in front in Municipal and Provincial assessments. In the March of 2005, Xinhua Daily gave an insightful report on our development with the title of The Most Dynamic County. In July of 2004, Guannan government signed a general agreement on friendly cooperation with Fengcheng town government of Shanghai. It stands for the commencement of our co-development with Shanghai. Major leaders from Jiangsu provincial government and Shanghai government all sing highly for this. At present, Guannan is actively embracing Shanghai and merging into Triangle of Yangtse River with brand new image.
After several years development, five pillar industries (Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry, Liquor Brewage, Furniture and Wood-Processing, Metallurgy and Machinery, Textile and Electronic Industry) have come into being in Guannan. In response to the provincial strategy of Seashore Development and the municipal strategic planning of One Body, Two Wings, Guannan government commenced establishing Guanhe Peninsula Economic Develop Area (GPEDA) along Guanhe River to make full use of the prominent transportation advantage of the river. GEPDA occupies an area of 250 square kms with 35 km long riverbank. Guannan government plans to develop harbor, cargo ship building, petrochemical industry and logistics in the area. GEPDA is believed to be the south industry base of Lianyungang Municipal, a development motor in Guanhe River Delta, a key chemical industrial park in Jiangsu province and a famous cargo ship building base in China.
